TACLOBAN CITY -- San Jose National High School suspended classes on Tuesday following reports of threatening messages posted online targeting students.
A Grade 8 teacher reported to the Tacloban City Police Station 1 that one of her students received a screenshot of a Messenger conversation sent to their class group chat.
The messages, allegedly from an account named “JM Magallanes,” contained threats against the school community.
Statements included warnings and claims that the sender and about nine others would target Grade 7 and Grade 8 students.
The message also named several individuals and identified specific students as targets.
The threats caused fear and alarm among students, teachers, and school staff, prompting the teacher to seek immediate police assistance.
Police were immediately deployed, additional officers assigned to increase security, and coordination was established with school administrators and Barangay 87 officials for area monitoring and information gathering.
They also reported the case to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 8 to trace the source of the messages and verify their authenticity.
Authorities conducted threat assessment, intelligence gathering, and close coordination with related agencies to prevent any untoward incident.
The CIDG Tacloban City Field Unit is assisting TCPS 1 in identifying the account owner, with verification work still ongoing.
Last month, three students were killed, while 20 were hurt in a shooting involving two minor students at the school.
