James Reid finds new joy in acting alongside Kathryn Bernardo: 'The experience itself is different'

Actor-singer James Reid is making his much-awaited return to primetime with the upcoming series "Someone, Someday," opposite Kathryn Bernardo and for the first time.
Although his last series titled "Til I Met You" aired some ten years ago, James didn't have a hard time adjusting for "Someone, Someday."
"Luckily, there weren't too many adjustments," he told us.
Then again, working with Kathryn was a different thing altogether.
"I think the experience itself is different, how Kath and I put together these new characters and tried to come up with something very new, that people haven't seen yet," he shared.
"We didn't want to give them something they've already seen. We really wanted to create something that was new, fresh, a brand new experience," James added.
James revealed that he and Kathryn were both nervous during their first few days on set.
"Actually, both Kath and I, when we first started working, I was so nervous. She was like, 'It's okay, I know how you feel.' I thought, well, at least we're on the same page," James related, smiling.
Apparently, they weren't able to spend much time getting to know each other before filming.
Thankfully, production eventually allowed for a "cast bonding."
"It was only then that we really got to sit down and try and figure out the quirks, the small details of Jordan and Billy (their characters in the show)," he said.
Dabbling in music for the longest time, James knew that he would eventually return to acting and he is glad he is doing so via "Someone, Someday."
"Actually, I always knew that I would go back to acting. It was never really goodbye for me. I've always said that it's something I want to return to one day when I feel like can handle it again. I feel like now is the right time to come back. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just an emotional thing. I'm in a good place right now. I'm very happy with everything I've done," James said.
When asked about what he missed most about acting, the actor and singer said it is the magic of giving life to a character, experiencing things one would never do in real life.
"I think acting is a different kind of creative experience compared to music. Music is something deeply personal. It's a personal experience, a personal journey. The way I write it's very real and grounded. Acting, on the other hand, is fantasy. You get to explore larger situations, experience a bigger kind of love, and try things that you would never really experience in real life. I think that's the part I miss the most about acting," James explained.
The series follows Billy (Kathryn), an independent woman dedicated to raising her younger brother, Oliver (Migz Casimiro), supporting her family, and running Love List, a dating app that helps women find meaningful relationships.
Though she seems to have her life together, everything begins to change as her friendship with Jordan (James) deepens.
And then there's the mysterious Abby (Maja) who enters her life with a hidden agenda.
The cast also includes Rowell Santiago, Rita Avila, McCoy De Leon, Daniela Stranner, Migz Casimiro, and more.
Directed by Chad V. Vidanes and Dolly Dulu, "Someone, Someday" premieres on July 27 at 8:45 p.m. on ALLTV2, TV5, A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, and Kapamilya Online Live on Facebook and YouTube.
Viewers can also catch it on Netflix beginning July 24, and then iWant on July 25.
