GSIS allots ₱12.6 million in emergency loans for Puerto Galera
State-run pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has allotted ₱12.62 million in emergency loans for members and pensioners in Puerto Galera town, Oriental Mindoro province, following the declaration of a state of calamity due to prolonged dry conditions and water shortages caused by the continuing effects of El Niño.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 14, GSIS said 485 active members and old-age and disability pensioners in the affected municipality may apply for the emergency loan.
Qualified active members are those working or residing in Puerto Galera who have no unpaid GSIS loan overdue by more than six months, are not on unpaid leave, have three months of paid premiums within the last six months, have no pending administrative or criminal case, and retain a monthly take-home pay of at least ₱5,000 after deductions.
Old-age and disability pensioners residing in the municipality may also apply, provided they retain at least 25 percent of their monthly pension after the loan deduction.
Members with existing emergency loans may borrow up to ₱40,000 to settle their previous emergency loan balances, ensuring a maximum net loan amount of ₱20,000. Those without outstanding emergency loans may apply for a ₱20,000 loan.
The emergency loan is payable over 36 equal monthly installments at an interest rate of six percent per annum. It carries no processing fee and is covered by loan redemption insurance, which deems the loan fully paid in the event of the borrower’s death, provided loan payments are up to date. The first loan deduction will be made after a two-month grace period.
Qualified members and pensioners may submit their applications through the GSIS Touch app until July 24, 2026.
GSIS said the emergency loan program forms part of its continuing efforts to provide responsive and accessible financial assistance to members and pensioners affected by calamities.
