Wai Ching Ho, the actress widely recognized for her portrayal of the formidable Hand leader Madame Gao in the Marvel series "Daredevil," has died at the age of 82.
She reportedly died of a stroke on Friday, July 10, 2026.
The news of her passing was first shared on Instagram by "Daredevil" co-star Peter Shinkoda.
“I won’t ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. I know wisdom – I’d hang on your every word. We will meet again, my friend. You were beautiful," wrote Peter.
Born in Hong Kong on November 16, 1943, Wai built an acclaimed acting career that lasted more than 30 years in both film and television. She made her big-screen debut in "Cadillac Man" (1990).
She went on to deliver memorable performances in "Soapdish," "Happiness," "Hustlers," and Disney's "Turning Red," where she lent her voice to the character Grandma Wu.
A familiar face on television, Wai appeared in numerous memorable series, including "Law & Order," "Orange Is the New Black," "Fresh Off the Boat," and "Only Murders in the Building."
Marvel fans fondly remember Wai for her portrayal of Madame Gao in "Daredevil," a role she later reprised in "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders."
