Souped-up SMB makes Govs' Cup debut vs Macau

Uncharacteristically booted out in the quarterfinals of the last conference, San Miguel has nothing in mind but to redeem themselves in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup. 
And there’s no better way to do that than seek a victory right on its opening game when it takes on Macau at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Tuesday, July 14.
Stacking up with talent during the offseason, the Beermen are eyeing a strong start to its campaign in the 7:30 p.m main event. 
It will follow an interesting clash between NLEX, which is looking to keep its flawless start, and Titan Ultra, which remains winless through two games, in the first offering at 5:15 p.m.
Although nothing short of dominant in the All-Filipino Cup, the import-flavored conferences haven’t been good for the Beermen as despite their loaded roster, they ended up struggling with their import choices early in the conference. 
Head coach Leo Austria hopes that wouldn’t be the case this time with former Blackwater import George King finally in tow. 
“Sometimes, it depends on the kind of import you get. Getting a good import sometimes is a matter of luck,” said Austria. 
A potent scorer during his first stint in the PBA, Austria believes King can complement their formidable local lineup led by June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez along side Don Trollano, Marcio Lassiter and Jericho Cruz. 
Aside from King, SMB even added another streaky gunner in Jerrick Ahanmisi and steady guard Paolo Hernandez. 
But like SMB, Macau is determined to not suffer the same slump it had the last conference when it finished with a 1-11 record. 
The Black Pandas are looking to pick up the pieces from their opening day 114-75 loss to the Road Warriors. Primed to lead the charge anew are spitfire guard Damian Chongqui and import De’Vondre Perry.
