The weather is expected to improve across the Philippines starting Tuesday, July 14, as the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will no longer affect any part of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, July 13.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will become the country's dominant weather system and are expected to prevail over the next two to three days.
With the prevalence of the easterlies, most parts of the country are expected to experience generally fair weather, although localized rain showers and thunderstorms may still occur, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area (LPA 07a) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a developed into a tropical depression.
As of 8 a.m., the tropical depression was located 1,275 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
However, Aurelio said the possibility of it entering the PAR remains low.
The tropical depression was moving west-northwestward at 30 kph.
