POLICE conduct anti-illegal fishing operations in Western Visayas. (PRO-6)
ILOILO CITY – Police seized illegal fishing equipment valued at P10 million in 10 days in Western Visayas.
The Police Regional Office-6 said P10.16 million in fishing boats and gears and fish worth P111,360 were confiscated in 58 anti-illegal fishing operations.
“Hindi lamang tungkol sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Ito ay tungkol din sa pangangalaga sa ating karagatan, pagprotekta sa kabuhayan ng ating mga mangingisda, at pagpapanatili ng yamang-dagat para sa susunod na henerasyon (This is not just about law enforcement. It is also about caring for our oceans, protecting the livelihoods of our fisherfolk, and preserving marine resources for future generations),” said PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recovered P7.5-million worth of fishing boats, gears, and fish and apprehended 39 individuals in 23 anti-illegal fishing operations, followed by the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) with P1.26 million in five operations.
Third was Antique Police Provincial Office (AnPPO) with P755,290 in 23 operations. Anti-illegal fishing operations were also conducted in Aklan and Capiz provinces.
Tuaño said the operations were conducted with other government agencies and local government units (LGUs).
