Matthew Lhuillier has finally addressed months of speculation surrounding his reported split from actress Chie Filomeno.

The Cebu-based businessman broke his silence in the comments section of an Instagram post dedicated to his longtime on-and-off girlfriend, American content creator and fashion advisor Jolie Jurkovich, as the couple celebrated five years together.

After one follower asked, "What happened to u and @chiefilomeno," Matthew offered a brief but telling response.

"Life happened."

It is the first time Matthew has publicly acknowledged the end of his rumored relationship with Chie, whose romance with the businessman made headlines last year.

His comment came beneath a heartfelt birthday tribute to Jolie, whom he described as his "beautiful partner in crime."

Reflecting on their five-year relationship, Matthew admitted that their journey has been far from smooth, revealing they had experienced multiple breakups before ultimately finding their way back to each other.

"Happy Birthday to my beautiful partner in crime, for what has been 5 years now. Where do I even begin? We have been through a lot," he wrote.

"From the great to the difficult. You have been there for me through everything and you have definitely ridden the rollercoaster ride with me. For that I am grateful."

He also acknowledged the ups and downs that tested their relationship.

"We've had breakups, make ups, and whatever the hell else is in between those two. But one thing that's for sure is I have always been crazy about you.

"We've always been the best of friends even when both of our lives seemed to be growing apart.

"Most importantly we always seemed to end up back in each others arms."

Matthew concluded by expressing his hope that they would continue building a future together.

"It's been truly special and I simply cannot picture my life any other way. I wouldn't want it any other way."

The post quickly drew attention, not only because of his touching message to Jolie but also because it prompted questions about Chie.

While Matthew chose to respond to one inquiry with his succinct "Life happened," several other followers urged netizens to leave the past behind and allow the couple to celebrate Jolie's birthday without dragging Chie into the conversation.

Matthew and Chie were first linked in September 2025 after the actress promoted one of his family's businesses on social media. The rumors intensified following Chie's split from actor Jake Cuenca, and the pair were later spotted together on several occasions.

Earlier this year, eagle-eyed fans noticed that photos of Jolie had reappeared on Matthew's Instagram, fueling speculation that the former couple had reconciled. His latest post appears to confirm that they are once again together.
