Sen. Rodante Marcoleta is now fit to travel after receiving medical treatment for his mild pneumonia and high blood pressure.
But the Philippine National Police (PNP) would prefer doing the transport of the embattled senator to the Sandiganbayan after the completion of the seven-day rule in taking antibiotics.
The completion of the antibiotics will be on Wednesday, July 15.
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, head of the Internal Medicine of PNP General Hospital, was quick to clarify that they will comply with whatever the decision of the Sandiganbayan based on the daily report they have been submitting to the anti-graft court on the status of Marcoleta’s health condition.
“He can travel anytime to be presented to them (Sandiganbayan) but what we recommended is the completion of his antibiotics,” Bayani told reporters at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Marcoleta was taken to the PNP General Hospital after he complained of chest and nape pains while undergoing booking procedures shortly after his arrest for a case of plunder on July 6.
While confined, doctors said he contracted mild pneumonia and Bayani pointed out that the antibiotic is for that lung problem.
As to the blood pressure, Bayani said it is now stable, the latest report during the morning rounds is 130/90.
Once presented to the Third Division of the Sandiganbayan where he faces the plunder case, a commitment order is expected to be issued.
All the three co-accused of Marcoleta are currently detained at the New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas.
