Manila orders tighter watch vs. W.I.L.D. diseases amid rains
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has ordered health officials to intensify monitoring of W.I.L.D. diseases -- waterborne illnesses, influenza-like infections, leptospirosis, and dengue -- as continuous rains heighten the risk of outbreaks in the city.
Domagoso directed Manila Health Department (MHD) chief Dr. Grace Padilla to reconvene health officials, including directors of the city’s seven hospitals, to strengthen surveillance and coordination.
The mayor also instructed Padilla to submit daily reports on the situation, noting that cases of these illnesses typically surge during the rainy season.
With weeks of persistent rainfall, Domagoso said the city government is taking proactive steps to detect and respond to potential health threats early.
He assured residents that Manila is prepared to address any possible impact of these diseases and continues to implement measures to safeguard public health.
