Drainage fixes keep Manila City Hall flood-free during storm, officials say
Manila Vice Mayor Angela Lei “Chi” Atienza convenes key city officials to review the city government’s response to Tropical Storm Inday and the rally held at Liwasang Bonifacio.
Drainage upgrades and close coordination kept Manila City Hall flood-free on July 10 as Tropical Storm Inday crossed the capital, while a rally at Liwasang Bonifacio ended safely, officials said.
Vice Mayor Angela Lei “Chi” Atienza gathered key departments on Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s orders to review the city’s response to the storm and the rally.
Heads of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD), Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), and Environment and Public Services (DEPS) reported that no flooding was recorded around City Hall, while water in other areas subsided quickly due to ongoing drainage projects and coordination with national agencies.
MCDRRMD Director Arnel Eustacio Angeles said medical teams and portable toilets were deployed at Liwasang Bonifacio to ensure the safety and convenience of rally participants.
Officials added that the city continues to monitor two weather disturbances that may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this week.
