Naomi Johnson continued to impress after capturing the silver medal in the women’s 400 meters at the first Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China over the weekend.
The 21-year-old Johnson timed 52.34 seconds for the runner-up honors behind eventual gold medalist Jonbibi Hukmova of Uzbekistan, who clocked a personal-best 51.19sec.
Sri Lanka’s Jithma Shenari Wijethunga Ambepitiya Gamage bagged the bronze with her own personal-best 53.10sec.
Johnson’s feat came a day after she reset the Philippine record in the said event during the heats. She posted 52.10sec, shattering the two-year-old national mark of 53.72sec set by Angel Watson, pending ratification.
