The saying, “If it’s free, you’re the product,” comes to mind with Meta’s new AI image model, Muse Image, which is integrated into the Instagram app. The red flags were raised regarding privacy issues, as anyone can use Instagram users' images and posts as prompts for generative images.
Basically, anyone can tag your public Instagram account, and they can use your photos and posts to generate an image of your likeness using Meta AI (Muse Image).
Don’t worry, you can opt out of this by making changes in your Instagram account.
Go to settings, and under Sharing and reuse, toggle off (opt out) the Posts and Reels fields under “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta.”
SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), the world’s largest labor union, representing performers, broadcasters, and recording artists, posted on their Facebook page, recommending their members to opt out of Muse Image.
Representing over 170,000 media professionals worldwide, the labor union said in a statement: “Anything other than a clear and conspicuous OPT-IN for these types of uses of Instagram users’ images is unacceptable, and an utter miscalculation of public sentiment regarding the obvious dangers and harms inherent in such use.”
