Police arrested a 53-year-old vendor after he was caught openly brandishing a firearm in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig City, on July 10.
The suspect, identified only as alias Rolando, a resident of the barangay, was apprehended around 11 p.m. during surveillance operations by the Station Intelligence Section of the Taguig police.
Authorities said Rolando was seen walking while brandishing a gun. Officers approached, disarmed, and arrested him.
Confiscated from the suspect were a loaded .45-caliber Colt pistol, a magazine, and three live cartridges.
He was taken to the police station for booking and documentation after undergoing medical examination.
The firearm and ammunition will be submitted to the Southern Police District (SPD) Forensic Unit for ballistic examination.
Police will also request verification of the firearm’s registration and the suspect’s license from the Regional Civil Security Unit–NCR.
A complaint for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, will be filed for inquest proceedings before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco, Southern Police District director, said the police force “will intensify operations against the illegal carrying of firearms and act swiftly against threats to public safety.”
