Silent Sanctuary stunned as MOA Arena concert sells out in five hours, adds 'Reverse Day 2'

Longevity in show business is a rare thing.

Acts come and go, sometimes only too quickly.

Indeed, rare are those who endure for decades.

Silent Sanctuary is among them.

Formed in 2001, Silent Sanctuary has become one of the country's most recognizable pop-rock bands, known for its signature "rockestra" sound that blends crunchy rock guitars with the rich textures of the violin and cello.

With numerous hit songs and sold-out concerts in the Philippines and abroad, the band continues to reach new audiences while creating music that resonates across generations.

But the journey wasn't without challenges.

Vocalist Raymund "Sarkie" Sarangay admitted as much during a recent interview.

"We have had ups and downs. It's a given na hindi naman smooth sailing parati sa buhay banda. It was frustrating for us noong una but we persevered."

He declined to go into detail about every hurdle they encountered through the years.

"Basta marami," he said. "I mean, naranasan na namin yung flop albums, flop singles. It came to a point din na halos wala na kumukuha sa amin, wala nang gigs pero, yun nga, tuloy-tuloy lang kami."

That persistence paid off in a big way recently when tickets to Silent Sanctuary's "Gabi ng Lambing" concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Oct. 25 sold out in just five hours.

For Sarkie, the overwhelming response was something he prayed for but never expected.

"Hindi ako tumitingin sa queue. Sinabihan na lang ako na may 18,000 people na naka-queue wala pang isang oras," Sarkie shared. "Ayoko talagang mag-expect. Pinagdarasal ko lang na ma-sold out. Sobrang grateful ako nung nalaman ko dahil sobra-sobra yung binigay ng Diyos."

He admitted the band was caught completely off guard.

"Nagulat talaga kami. We didn't expect it at all, especially considering how huge the venue is for us. It's our first time attempting a concert in a venue this big."

Cellist Anjo Inacay said the speed of the sellout surprised everyone in the band.

"Nakakagulat talaga. Hindi namin inexpect na magso-sold out siya on the same day ng release ng tickets," Anjo said. "Akala namin on the day ng concert pa posible mag-sold out."

Violinist Kim Mirandilla-Ng said the five-hour sellout brought both gratitude and added pressure.

"Sobrang overwhelming, blessed, and at the same time mas dumoble yung pressure," Kim said. "Kailangan matapatan ng performance namin yung overflowing support and love ng fans."

The band credits its longtime supporters for making it possible.

"Yeah, I mean, sila talaga yung dahilan kung bakit nandito pa rin kami, yung mga loyal supporters na hindi bumitaw."

The overwhelming demand eventually convinced the band and organizers to mount another show.

Silent Sanctuary is adding a "Reverse Day 2" performance on Oct. 24, 2026, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The added show earned its unusual name because it comes before the original concert.

"Kaya 'Reverse Day 2' kasi mas nauna pa sa original show yung added date," Sarkie explained with a smile. "Ang dahilan naman diyan is that wala na kaming makuhang date after October 25. So ang Day 2 namin right before the sold-out concert."

It made perfect business sense.

Still, Sarkie was quick to stress that fans shouldn't expect a repeat performance.

"Magkaibang-magkaiba ang shows for those two days. Iba yung repertoire tsaka yung mga surprises. Ayaw namin isipin ng mga tao na dagdag-kita lang ito. We staged another show to accommodate talaga those who wanted to watch pero hindi na nakabili ng tickets for October 25."

As for those surprises, Sarkie remained tight-lipped.

"May mga bagong songs kaming ipaparinig sa mga tao. Hindi pa nare-release. Of course, there's the Manila Symphony Orchestra, Viva Voce, tsaka may surprise guests kami na hindi naman sasabihin. Makikita na lang nila doon sa concert. Parehong malupit yung ipaparanas namin sa inyo."

For keyboardist and backing vocalist Poch Villalon, adding another show was an easy decision once they saw how many fans were left without tickets.

"Yung nagpa-yes sa amin ay yung demand kasi may mga fans na hindi talaga umabot, lalo na yung mga kakalabas pa lang daw ng work, sold out na," Poch shared. "Para ito sa mga fans na hindi nakakuha ng ticket. Para ito sa mga titos and titas of Manila!"

Bassist Ronnie Ropal said the second show was the band's response to the overwhelming number of requests from fans, while drummer Allen Calixto pointed to the thousands still waiting in the online queue even after tickets had sold out.

The additional date transforms "Gabi ng Lambing" from a one-night event into a two-night celebration of love, nostalgia, and 24 years of music.

For the band, the sold-out concerts mean far more than filling an arena.

It is proof that their music continues to be woven into people's lives.

"For years, we just kept grinding and gigging around doing what we love," Anjo said. "I'm glad that our music has been a part of their lives as much as ours."
