After years of hoping and waiting, Filipino fans of Gong Yoo finally have a reason to celebrate.
The beloved South Korean actor behind some of the biggest Korean dramas and films of the last decade is officially bringing his first Asia fan meeting tour to Manila, giving local fans a rare chance to see him in person.
Management Soop made the announcement on July 10, which also happened to be Gong Yoo's 46th birthday, teasing the highly anticipated tour with the words: "The journey begins."
Titled "The Long Take," the fan meeting tour will visit six cities across Asia: Jakarta, Manila, Yokohama, Bangkok, Macau, and Seoul.
The Manila stop marks a major milestone for Filipino fans, many of whom have supported Gong Yoo throughout his career, from his breakout roles to his more recent global hits.
Known for unforgettable performances in "Goblin," "Train to Busan," and Netflix's "Squid Game," Gong Yoo has built a devoted following in the Philippines, where his dramas and films continue to enjoy massive popularity.
Alongside the announcement, the actor shared a heartfelt handwritten letter expressing his gratitude to fans.
"It has been a while since I sent my greetings in my own handwriting. I hope you are all staying healthy and well during this sweltering summer," he wrote.
Reflecting on his birthday, Gong Yoo said he was deeply thankful for the unwavering support he continues to receive every year.
"Thanks to the unchanging congratulations and warm hearts you send me every year on my birthday, I am spending this year with true gratitude as well. Thanks to all of you who have been with me for so long, I have naturally come to look back on the time that has passed."
He also revealed that the upcoming fan meetings are his way of creating new memories with the people who have stood by him throughout the years.
"So this year, I have prepared a gathering to share that time in person. I hope to add a new chapter to the story that has continued for so long. Until then, I will also stay well in my place and return to you with a good appearance."
As fans celebrated the announcement and his birthday, Gong Yoo's official fan club, Yoo&I, also marked the occasion by donating 10 million won (around $6,670) to the Korea Leukemia Children's Foundation to help support the treatment of children battling pediatric cancer.
Details regarding the date, venue, and ticket sales for the Manila fan meeting have yet to be announced, but for Filipino fans, one thing is already certain: Gong Yoo is finally on his way.
