Marikina rescue boats, teams on standby in low-lying areas for 'Inday'
The Marikina City government said rescue boats are on standby while response teams have been deployed to identified low‑lying areas, as heavy rains brought by Typhoon Inday are expected Friday afternoon, July 10.
It said that a total of 20 rescue boats have been prepositioned across 10 identified low-lying and flood-prone areas, with two boats assigned to each location:
●Calcite Twinriver, Parang
●Bayabas
●Kingsway
●Bulelak, Malanday
●Homeowners Drive
●Mountain View, Sta. Elena
●Provident
●Tanong
●Zenaida Homes, Sto. Niño
●IVC Safety Center
Evacuation Preparedness
The local government added that evacuation tents, food packs, and hygiene kits have also been prepositioned at the following major evacuation centers:
●Concepcion Integrated School
●Malanday Elementary School
●Nangka Elementary School
●H. Bautista Elementary School
Central kitchens have also been established and are now operational at Manotoc Gym in Sto. Niño, serving District I, and at Nangka Elementary School, serving District II.
Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro also said they are monitoring weather advisories throughout the day to ensure an immediate response if necessary.
Teodoro added that the Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Rescue 161) is on high alert following the issuance of a Yellow Rainfall Warning over Metro Manila.
The city government also conducted an inter-agency clearing operation, including tree trimming, the removal of garbage, and the clearing of obstructions and clogged waterways to help keep Marikina safe, orderly, and prepared for the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said it is fully prepared and continuously coordinating with local government units and partner agencies to ensure a prompt and effective response to the possible effects of Inday.
It said flood-prone and other high-risk areas, as well as designated evacuation centers, are being closely monitored.
It added that search and rescue (SAR) teams and other response units have been placed on standby to provide immediate assistance if needed.
The public was also urged to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and cooperate with authorities to help ensure everyone's safety.
