Hotel101 nears December opening of record-breaking Japan resort
DoubleDragon Corp. is accelerating its international hospitality expansion, moving closer to debuting its first homegrown hotel brand in Japan.
The property developer, controlled by billionaires Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Tony Tan Caktiong, is aiming to capitalize on its standardized “condotel” business model to capture real estate sales and recurring lodging revenues across major Asian travel hubs.
The company expects its subsidiary, Nasdaq-listed Hotel101 Global Holdings Corp., to open the 482-room Hotel101-Niseko in Hokkaido by December 2026. According to a disclosure filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange, interior fit-out operations are fully underway.
Upon completion, the project will rank as the largest hotel development in Kutchan, located within the internationally prominent ski destination of Niseko. The property marks the first time a Philippine hospitality chain will build and operate an upscale commercial accommodation asset in Japan.
The resort project is designed to capture year-round international tourism traffic driven by Hokkaido’s famous powder snow during the winter season and alpine retreats, hiking, and hot springs during the summer months.
The complex will house leisure and business infrastructure, including two indoor pools, a natural hot mineral bath, a sauna, a dedicated ski rental facility, and multiple food and beverage outlets. (James A. Loyola)
