Fresh off a string of sold-out performances in Canada and a packed Manila concert, Beks Battalion is preparing to reunite with Filipinos abroad through a series of shows across the United States.

For the beloved comedy trio, the tour is about far more than taking the stage in different cities.

For Chad Kinis, It is mainly an opportunity to bring a little piece of the Philippines to Filipinos who have built lives thousands of miles away.

"Kapag nasa abroad ang mga kababayan natin, gusto lang naman nilang makaramdam ng konting Pilipinas," he said. "Kung mapapatawa namin sila at mapapaalala namin ang bahay kahit sandali lang, malaking bagay na 'yon para sa amin."

MC Muah Calaquian said audiences overseas are not just looking for a comedy show. They're looking for a sense of familiarity, a sense of home.

"Ang saya kasi kahit saan kami magpunta, pare-pareho pa rin ang kuwentuhan at tawanan," she said. "Iba-iba man ang lugar, pare-pareho pa rin ang puso ng mga Pilipino."

For Lassy Marquez, hearing how their performances affect people is what makes every trip worthwhile.

He said, "Masaya kami kapag may lumalapit pagkatapos ng show at sinasabing nakalimutan nila kahit sandali ang pagod o homesickness. Doon namin nararamdaman na may saysay ang ginagawa namin."

As openly LGBTQIA+ entertainers, the trio has become one of the most recognizable acts in Philippine comedy. While they acknowledge the visibility that comes with that, they say their goal has always been to make audiences laugh together, regardless of background.

"Kapag sabay-sabay kayong tumatawa, wala nang iniisip kung sino ka o saan ka galing," Chad said. "Comedy has a way of bringing people together."

That is the spirit they hope to bring throughout their US tour, which begins in Honolulu on Sept. 4 before heading to San Francisco the following day. The trio will also perform in Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Queens, and Maui, bringing their signature brand of humor to Filipino communities across the country.

Beks Battalion said they remain humbled by the support they continue to receive from Filipinos wherever they go.

"Napakasarap sa pakiramdam na kahit nasa ibang bansa ang mga Pilipino, dala pa rin nila ang saya at ang pagmamahal sa sariling kultura," MC Muah said. "Kung kami ang nagiging dahilan para magsama-sama sila at tumawa nang buong gabi, fulfilled na kami."

For Beks Battalion, the tour is ultimately less about crossing cities on a map than strengthening the bonds that connect Filipinos around the world.

"What we're really bringing isn't just a comedy show," Lassy said. "We're bringing the kind of laughter that reminds every Filipino, wherever they are in the world, that they're never too far from home."
