Under Blue Alert Status, MCDRRMD personnel and response teams are on standby for possible flooding, strong winds, and other weather-related emergencies.
The department said rescue equipment has been deployed and positioned in strategic areas as part of the city government’s intensified preparations for the possible impact of the typhoon.
Among the equipment readied are rescue boats, life vests, ropes, emergency medical kits, and other tools for immediate response to flooding, evacuation, and other emergencies.
Rescue personnel and emergency response teams are also continuously monitoring the situation to ensure a swift and orderly response to residents who may be affected.
The MCDRRMD said the heightened alert is part of the city’s efforts to protect the lives and safety of Manileños while closely monitoring Typhoon Inday and official weather advisories.
As of 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, the Manila City government also issued Localized Thunderstorm Advisory No. 1, warning residents of moderate to heavy rains due to thunderstorms that may persist for the next two to three hours.
The MCDRRMD clarified that the expected rainfall is not yet caused by Super Typhoon Bavi or Inday.
Residents were advised to bring umbrellas or raincoats when going outside, drive carefully on slippery roads, and avoid flooded areas to prevent accidents and possible illnesses.
The public was also urged to remain vigilant, monitor official advisories, and prepare for the possible effects of Super Typhoon Inday.
Authorities are also bracing for a rally to be staged by a group in the afternoon.
