A 25-year-old e-bike driver was arrested after allegedly robbing a Dutch woman of her mobile phone in Pasay City on Tuesday, July 8, while his two companions escaped.
Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspect only as “Kenji,” who was apprehended at the corner of Gil Puyat Avenue and Tramo Street in Barangay 50.
Police said the Dutch national and her 34-year-old Turkish fiancé were walking in the area when an electric bicycle carrying the suspect and his two companions suddenly blocked their path.
The three suspects reportedly got off the e bike, forcibly grabbed the victim’s cellular phone worth about P70,000, and attempted to flee.
While the two accomplices escaped on foot, the e-bike driver was chased by the Turkish national, who, with the help of concerned bystanders, prevented him from getting away.
Responding members of the Pasay City Police’s Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit, who were conducting routine patrol operations, arrived after receiving a call for assistance and took the suspect into custody.
During a body search, police recovered a concealed 10-inch kitchen knife from the suspect’s pocket. Authorities also impounded the red electric bicycle allegedly used in the robbery.
The suspect was turned over to the Pasay City Police Investigation and Detective Management Section for documentation and detention.
He is facing charges of robbery with violence or intimidation of persons under Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code, as well as violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 6 for illegal possession of a bladed weapon.
Authorities are continuing operations to identify and arrest the two remaining suspects.
