PEOPLE seek refuge from bad weather in Negros Occidental (FB)
BACOLOD CITY – Four-hundred twenty families or 1,272 individuals evacuated from seven barangays in four local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental due to flooding triggered by heavy rain on Thursday, July 9.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said 300 families fled Barangay Robles in La Castellana, followed by Barangay Bulad in Isabela with 64, Barangays Antipolo, San Isidro, and DSB in Pontevedra with 42, and Barangays Odiong and 3 Poblacion in Moises Padilla with 14 families.
Flooding was reported in Barangays Antipolo, DSB, Cambarus, and San Isidro in Pontevedra, Barangays Robles and Maytubig in Isabela, and the barangays in La Castellana and Moises Padilla since Wednesday, July 8.
Classes were suspended in Calatrava, Don Salvador, San Carlos City, Murcia, Bago City, La Carlota City, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Valladolid, Binalbagan, Himamaylan City, Hinigaran, Isabela, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Candoni, Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Kabankalan City, and Sipalay City.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) temporarily suspended all island-hopping and seawater-related activities in southern Negros Occidental.
The provincial government of Negros Oriental extended class suspension on Friday, July 10, due to the threat of super typhoon Inday, with the latest bulletins and advisories of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as bases.
This highly-urbanized city cancelled classes on Friday in line with the weather forecast for Negros Occidental indicating strong wind and heavy rain.
Meanwhile, a tornado hit Barangays Pilar and Tagda in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Thursday, damaging 20 houses.
Twelve were in coastal Barangay Tagda and eight in Barangay Pilar. Damaged roofs and no injuries were reported, the MDRRMO said.
No evacuation was reported as residents immediately repaired their damaged homes.
