Authorities are searching for the driver of an unidentified vehicle who fled after a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 26-year-old woman rider on the Delpan Flyover in Binondo, Manila, late Monday night, July 6.
The victim was identified as Neri Joy Matias, a sales associate and resident of Navotas City, police said.
Initial investigation showed that Matias was riding her motorcycle along the northbound lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard at around 11:17 p.m. when she was struck by an unidentified vehicle while ascending the Delpan Flyover, near the Delpan Evacuation Center.
The impact caused the victim to fall onto the pavement and sustain fatal head injuries. Her helmet was found several meters away from her body, indicating the force of the collision, authorities said.
The driver sped away after the incident and has yet to be identified.
Responding personnel from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) arrived at the scene and declared the victim dead.
Police said the victim’s motorcycle sustained damage, particularly at the rear portion.
Authorities have launched a follow-up investigation to identify the vehicle and track down the driver, who may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
