President Marcos said workers in more regions may soon receive salary increases as regional wage boards continue evaluating the need for wage adjustments following the recently approved P85 daily wage hike in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Speaking to reporters in Pulilan, Bulacan, the President said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) are independently studying prevailing economic conditions in their respective regions before deciding on new wage orders.

"Ang tripartite wage board, regional tripartite wage board, patuloy 'yan, hindi tumitigil 'yan (The tripartite wage board, the regional tripartite wage board, continues its work. It does not stop),” he said on Wednesday, July 8.

"Patuloy na tinitingnan at inaaral kung ano ba talaga ang presyuhan sa bawat region, para mailagay na tama ang ating wage rate, kung kailangan ng wage hike, kung magkano (They continuously study price levels in every region so the proper wage rate can be set and determine whether a wage hike is needed and, if so, how much),” he added.

The President said decisions in several regions are expected around September or October this year.

"Kaya pag natapos na sila sa kanilang pag-aaral, ilalabas na rin natin ang naging resulta at kung ano ang rekomendasyon ng ating tripartite wage board sa iba't ibang region para titingnan natin na maganda ang magiging maitutulong natin sa mamamayan na nagtatrabaho (Once they finish their studies, we will release the results and the recommendations of the tripartite wage boards in the different regions so we can ensure they provide meaningful assistance to our working Filipinos),” he said.

"'Yan ang pinakaimportante sa lahat (That is the most important thing of all),” he added.

NCR increase

Marcos noted that Metro Manila was the first region to approve a wage adjustment this year.

"Ang nanguna ay ang NCR; P85 ang naging wage hike natin (The National Capital Region led the way. We approved an P85 wage hike there),” he said.

The NCR's Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board approved the P85 daily wage increase in late June, raising the minimum daily wage for non-agriculture workers from P645 to P730 beginning July 18. The adjustment is the highest nominal wage increase ever granted in Metro Manila in a single wage order.

The wage order also provides corresponding increases for workers in the agriculture, retail, manufacturing, and service sectors.

The President also defended the administration's record on workers' wages, saying employees in Metro Manila have received the largest cumulative wage increases in Philippine history under his watch.

"Again, sa buong kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, ang pinakamaraming pagtaas ng wages, lalo na sa Metro Manila, ay sa nakaraang apat na taon (Again, in the entire history of the Philippines, the biggest wage increases, especially in Metro Manila, have been granted over the past four years),” he said.

"Nakapagbigay na tayo ng P200 lahat-lahat (We have already granted a total of P200),” he added.
