Marcos OKs key transport, education, energy, disaster resilience, AI projects

President Marcos has approved several initiatives in public transport, education, energy, disaster resilience, and artificial intelligence (AI), Malacañang said.
Marcos presided over the 10th Economy and Development (ED) Council Meeting on July 7, where he approved key initiatives to improve public transportation, expand skills training and employment opportunities, strengthen the country’s clean energy sector, and enhance disaster resilience.
According to Malacañang, the approved projects include the proposed variation to the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) South Extension Project to enable the interim operations of the Common Station.
The Project BEST (Boosting Employability in Strategic Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sectors) and the Philippine Geothermal Resource Derisking Facility were also approved.
The Geothermal Resource De-Risking Facility will include the Department of Energy and Department of Public Works and Highways Retrofitting Project for 234 school buildings and 36 hospitals, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing on Wednesday, July 8.
The council likewise approved the requested changes to the Philippine Seismic Risk Reduction and Resilience Project to strengthen the safety and resilience of select public school buildings in Metro Manila.
They also confirmed the Philippine Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Master Plan 2026–2033, which will serve as the country’s long-term roadmap for advancing AI infrastructure, digital connectivity, and innovation to support sustainable economic growth and national competitiveness.
