Malasimbo 12 celebrates renaissance in Intramuros, announces bold move to Balesin for 2027
The 12th edition of the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival brought Puerta Real Gardens in Intramuros to life with a vibrant blend of music, art, and sustainability.
Families flocked to the Kids Village, where they took part in workshops on yoga, poi spinning, crochet, drumming, and origami. Eco-friendly activities such as Bambike bamboo rides and solar light-building with Liter of Light highlighted the festival's commitment to responsible creativity.
Immersive art installations transformed the venue into a living gallery. Works by festival favorites Jinggoy Buensuceso, Cherry Fulo, Hohana, Hare King, and Olivia d'Aboville—whose Giant Dandelions illuminated the gardens—captivated festivalgoers, while the Daloy Dance Company performed in avant-garde wearable art created by Leeroy New.
As night fell, the festival shifted into high gear with performances by Selah Dub Warriors, Anima Tierra, and Jeck Pilpil & Peacepipe before reggae artist Julian Marley delivered what organizers described as one of the finest performances in Malasimbo Festival history.
Malasimbo's 12th year was more than a festival—it marked a renaissance of community and culture. Supported by partners including JB Music, The British Council, F1 Hotel Manila, Search Mindscape Foundation, and The Art House, the event underscored the idea that creativity continues to thrive even in the face of adversity.
Malasimbo 13: A surprising leap to Balesin Island
Founder Miro Grgić also announced that the 13th edition of the festival will take place from May 1 to 3, 2027, at Balesin Island, marking a new chapter in Malasimbo's evolution.
For the first time, the exclusive island destination will host the festival, featuring multiple stages and sports activities designed to create a three-day immersive experience. Guests can expect live music, art installations, DJ sets, boat parties, a Kids Village, spa experiences, yoga, Pilates, and a range of sports, including tennis, badminton, pickleball, and more.
