DFA probes incident involving PCO official Claire Castro during Marcos' Canada visit

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday, July 8, said it is looking into an incident involving Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s visit to Vancouver, Canada, last week.
In a statement, the DFA said Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro had directed the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver to coordinate with Canadian authorities.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs is looking into the incident involving Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro during the visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to Vancouver, BC, Canada last week,” the DFA said.
The agency did not disclose further details about the incident, including when and where it occurred, or whether any individual had been identified in connection with the matter.
The DFA said it would work with Canadian authorities to clarify the incident and review the security arrangements for Philippine officials during the President’s overseas visit.
The coordination aims to establish the specific circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the laws and security protocols applicable to visiting foreign dignitaries.
Lazaro instructed the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver to “coordinate with Canadian authorities in determining the specifics of the incident as well as the applicable laws and security protocols covering visiting foreign dignitaries.”
