Residents of Pook Malantic in Barangay UP Campus, Quezon City, formed a human barricade on Wednesday, July 8, fearing demolition after personnel and a private truck arrived with materials to fence a rental housing project.
The residents linked arms to block the entry of the truck and personnel, insisting they would not allow any operation to proceed unless they were first provided with proper relocation.
The affected families also claimed there had been no clear coordination with the Quezon City Housing Office and appealed for the operation to be suspended.
Authorities later clarified that no demolition had been scheduled that day, stressing that the activity was limited to the delivery of construction materials for the project's fencing works.
Despite the clarification, residents continued guarding the entrance to their community, saying they feared the fencing work could eventually lead to their displacement.
