BACOLOD CITY – The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV) is on heightened alert for super typhoon “Inday” in Negros Island Region (NIR) this week.
The CGDSV and its stations, together with its substation units, have activated their Deployable Response Group (DRG) in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental, on Tuesday, July 7 for Inday.
All response teams equipped with essential gears and equipment are on standby and ready for immediate deployment to protect coastal communities and assist in any emergency operations.
The CGDSW reminded the public to always be prepared and stay alert.
Classes in some local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental were suspended due to Inday.
Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas suspended classes on all levels in Canlaon City from July 7 to 8, noting that it is imperative for the city government and the public to undertake necessary preparedness and preemptive measures to minimize risks and ensure public safety, since the city being part of the Visayas, may experience adverse weather conditions that could endanger the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel.
The Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) has been directed to continuously monitor weather advisories and coordinate with concerned agencies to recommend and implement appropriate measures for the protection of lives and property.
Cardenas led an emergency meeting on Monday, July 6, with the LDRRMC, barangay captains, and concerned agencies to strengthen preparedness and response measures for the possible impacts of the typhoon.
In Negros Occidental, the towns of Hinobaan and Pontevedra, and the cities of La Carlota, Himamaylan, Kabankalan cancelled the classes on Wednesday, July 8. San Carlos City also imposed zonal suspension of classes on Wednesday in Barangays Rizal, Guadalupe, Punao, Palampas, Bagonbon, Nataban, Prosperidad, Buluangan, Codcod, Quezon, San Juan, Ermita, and Sipaway Island. The towns of Isabela and Moises Padilla suspended classes from July 8 to 10.
