Police remained on heightened alert Tuesday, July 7, as the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte entered its second day, with security tightened in and around the Senate complex.
City police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto said personnel were strategically deployed around the Senate building and along major roads leading to the area to ensure visibility and quick response to any incident.
He stressed that officers are enforcing a “maximum tolerance” policy while monitoring supporters, protesters, and other groups near the Senate.
While the public’s right to peaceful assembly will be respected, De Sesto warned that unlawful acts or threats to public safety will be dealt with under the law.
Aside from security operations, police units were tasked to manage traffic and crowd movement to minimize disruption to motorists and ensure pedestrian safety.
Support units remain on standby as part of the city’s comprehensive security plan for the duration of the proceedings.
Authorities urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement, follow security protocols, and remain vigilant to help ensure the trial is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
