P688.9-M assistance to benefit 359K Manileños

Thousands of Manila residents, including police officers, public school teachers, students, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and solo parents, are set to receive financial assistance this month after Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso ordered the release of P688.9 million in benefits.
On Tuesday, July 7, Domagoso announced that 359,295 beneficiaries will receive assistance through various city-funded programs and the national government’s Social Pension program.
According to the City Treasurer’s Office headed by Atty. Paul Vega, P611.11 million will come from the city’s coffers, while P77.79 million will be sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the social pension of indigent senior citizens.
The first batch of payouts, amounting to P158.76 million, will be released from July 8 to 11 to 40,250 beneficiaries covered by city ordinances.
Another P452.35 million in monetary allowances for 293,655 beneficiaries, along with P77.79 million in DSWD social pensions for 25,930 senior citizens, will be distributed from July 22 to 24.
Among the recipients are 4,447 Manila Police District personnel, as well as members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, who will receive incentives covering April to June.
The city will also release incentives to 12,466 public school teachers, 5,524 Grade 12 students, and thousands of students enrolled at the Universidad de Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST).
Meanwhile, 212,553 senior citizens will receive the city’s monthly allowance, while 25,930 indigent senior citizens enrolled in the DSWD’s Social Pension Program will receive an additional national government pension for the same period.
Allowances will likewise be distributed to 63,281 persons with disabilities and 17,281 solo parents.
“Nilalaan po namin ay humigit-kumulang P688.9 million na ire-release ngayong buwan ng Hulyo (We're allotting more or less P688.9 million to be released this month of July),” Domagoso said.
He stressed that Manila’s senior citizens’ allowance remains universal, with eligibility based solely on age and residency.
“Walang distinction—mahirap, middle class, at mayaman. Basta senior citizen at taga-Maynila (No distinction, as long as senior citizen of Manila),” he said.
Domagoso urged beneficiaries to monitor payout schedules and share the information with others, assuring them that the city remains committed to spending public funds prudently and ensuring these reach their intended recipients.
“Pipilitin nating laging maging mainam, sinop, at episyenteng gastahin ang taxpayers’ money na ipinagkatiwala sa atin ng mga kababayan natin (We will always push for an orderly and efficient allocation of taxpayers' money that the public has entrusted to us), ” he added.
