Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval assured residents on Tuesday, July 7, that the city government is fully prepared to respond to the possible effects of Super Typhoon Inday.

Sandoval said response teams, emergency equipment, evacuation centers, and relief supplies have been readied as the city braces for possible heavy rains and flooding.

“Bago pa man po pumasok sa Philippine Area of Responsibility ang Bagyong Inday, handa na ang ating pamahalaang lungsod sa mga posibleng maging epekto nito sa Malabon (Even before Super Typhoon Inday entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the city government had already prepared for its possible effects on Malabon),” she said.

She added that the city government has already positioned its equipment and response teams to immediately assist residents in case of emergencies.

“Nakahanda na ang ating mga kagamitan at pati ang mga response teams na agarang darating kung sakaling magkaroon ng hindi inaasahang sitwasyon dulot ng malakas na pag-ulan o pagbaha. Makakaasa po ang bawat Malabueno na prayoridad natin ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa (Our equipment and response teams are ready to respond immediately in case of emergencies caused by heavy rains or flooding. Every Malabueño can be assured that their safety remains our top priority),” the mayor said.

The city government convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting attended by response clusters from various city government departments, national government agencies, officials from the city's 21 barangays, utility partners, and other stakeholders.

The city government said 43 evacuation centers across Malabon's barangays have been prepared for residents who may need temporary shelter.

Around 40 pumping stations are also fully operational to help mitigate flooding during periods of intense rainfall.

The Malabon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is leading overall coordination, information management, emergency operations, and search, rescue, and retrieval efforts.

Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Department has prepared family food packs, relief supplies, and evacuation and camp management services.

The City Health Department has also placed hospitals, Super Health Centers, health centers, and medical personnel on heightened alert.

Barangay officials have been directed to closely monitor conditions in their communities and coordinate with the city government for possible response and preemptive evacuation measures.

Sandoval urged residents to remain vigilant, monitor official advisories, prepare emergency go-bags, and cooperate with evacuation orders when necessary.
