The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is now preparing travel advisories amid the threat of super typhoon “Bavi” which is expected to enter the country’s area of responsibility as early as Tuesday night, July 7.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said they are now coordinating with the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) to identify areas that would likely be affected by the weather disturbance.
“We have been monitoring this weather disturbance in the past days and our focus now is to immediately identify the areas that would likely be affected in coordination with the Pagasa for proper action in relation to public safety,” said Mendoza.
‘Bavi’ will be named ‘Inday” once it entered the country’s area of responsibility and while it will not likely to make a landfall, weather experts said it may unleash strong winds and heavy rains in some parts of the country, especially the northern portion of Luzon, and eastern portions of Luzon and the Visayas.
The threat prompted President Marcos to order all government agencies to prepare to ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.
On the part of the LTFRB, Mendoza said they will monitor the situation and will immediately issue travel advisory to transport companies, especially operators or buses and UV Express and even trucks.
“I have already directed all RFROs (Regional Franchising and Regulatory Offices) to maximize the use of our social media accounts to warn motorists and PUV drivers on travel suspensions to ensure the welfare of all,” said Mendoza.
He said coordination will also be made with the Department of Public Works and Highways for road closures and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for any suspended sea travel.
“In this way all motorists and travelers will be assisted in adjusting travel plans for their welfare and safety,” said Mendoza.
