ILOILO CITY – Lady activist Josephine Parra Porquia of Migrante was released from detention three months after she was arrested during Holy Week in Pavia, Iloilo.
Panay Alliance Karapatan announced Porquia’s release on Tuesday, July 7, after the court junked charges of illegal possession of explosives which police filed against her when she was arrested last April 2.
But the Holy Week arrest was for a warrant for alleged rebellion issued by a court based in Mambusao, Capiz. Porquia was linked to an encounter between the Philippine Army and New People’s Army (NPA) in August 2011.
“But the warrant does not mention Porquia’s name but refers only to an alias,” noted Panay Alliance Karapatan which urged the dismissal of rebellion charges against Porquia.
“The use of warrants containing aliases is likewise deplorable as these are abused by security forces to arrest any person they target,” Panay Alliance Karapatan noted.
Porquia is the wife of Jory Porquia, a Bayan Muna activist who was killed during the pandemic lockdown on April 30, 2020.
Porquia, in her 60s, was apprehended along with Maria Luisa Tagamolila Guillen, her in-law, last April 2.
