ZAMBOANGA CITY – The first community tsunami alert system here was unveiled in Barangay Taluksangay on Monday, July 6.
It is designed to alert people residing on the shoreline of a possible tidal wave in times of emergencies, saving hundreds of lives through quick community response.
The tsunami alert system is one among six to be installed in coastal communities here. The other five communities expected to receive the system are Barangays Bolong, Mariki, Mampang, Dita, and Panubigan.
The system is an initiative under the Green Livelihood Project of the Philippine Red Cross and Spanish Red Cross with financial support from AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation) and Elbarko Udala (Eibar City Council in Spain).
