A 56-year-old man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly threatened to kill a Land Transportation Office (LTO) assistant secretary during an altercation inside the agency’s main office on East Avenue in Quezon City at 2:45 p.m. on June 29.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) filed direct assault and grave oral defamation charges against the suspect in connection with the incident at the office of LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao in Barangay Pinyahan.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Ramil,” 56, a resident of Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City, who was a visitor at the office at the time of the incident.
Based on the report of the Kamuning Police Station (PS-10), a misunderstanding during the conversation escalated after the suspect shouted profanities, made threatening gestures, and uttered death threats against the assistant secretary in the presence of LTO personnel.
LTO personnel immediately pacified the situation and sought assistance from PS-10, leading to the suspect’s arrest on the same day, June 29.
The suspect later posted bail and was released pending trial, with arraignment set on Aug. 10 before the court.
QCPD Director Randy Glenn Silvio said violence, threats, and acts that disrupt the orderly discharge of official duties have no place in government institutions.
He added that the QCPD remains committed to protecting public servants, maintaining peace and order, and ensuring that anyone who violates the law is held accountable regardless of status.
