Kakai Bautista fires back after being called 'enabler' over defense of Apple David-Chad Gammad romance

Singer-actress Kakai Bautista has responded to the backlash pointed towards her after defending content creator and PBA courtside reporter Apple David’s relationship with basketball player Chad Gammad, pushing back against netizens who branded her an “enabler.”
Among those who were quick to lash out at Kakai was Miss Earth Philippines 2025 Joy Barcoma, who even joked that she would be offended if people compared their looks.
“Simula ngayon maooffend na ko pag sinabing kamukha ko siya..."
The controversy began after 33-year-old Apple confirmed she is dating 18-year-old Chad, drawing widespread discussion over their 15-year age gap.
Kakai questioned on Facebook why so many people were upset about it.
“Bat galit na galit kayo kung nagkagusto ang 18 years old sa kanya? BUHAY NYA YAN. Pinakealaman nya ba yung BUHAY nyo nung naglandi kayo?”
Kakai went on to say that some people seemed more willing to praise those romantically linked to corrupt politicians than allow others to be happy in their relationships.
Her remarks quickly divided social media.
In a video posted on July 4, Kakai addressed the criticism directly, questioning why she was being called an enabler. She argued that those who genuinely believed a crime had been committed should file a formal complaint instead of attacking her online.
“Kung sa tingin niyo nga na masama ‘yong ginagawa, mag-file kayo ng complaint,” she said.
Kakai also shared a screenshot showing she had searched online for any legal complaints concerning Apple and Chad's situation and claimed she found none.
“I researched everywhere, wala naman nag-complain about their relationship. Kayo lang ang maingay... Awayin niyo ‘ko kapag may formal complaint na, may kaso na.”
She maintained that she would only criticize Apple if legal action were ever filed, adding that, as things currently stand, she sees no issue with the relationship.
Kakai also dismissed online accusations of grooming, insisting critics were reading too much into the situation and encouraging people to let others be happy.
Her comments continued to draw mixed reactions. While some agreed that the matter should not be judged solely on public opinion, others argued that legality and morality are separate issues.
One commenter wrote, “It’s not even about age gap eh, it’s the mere fact that the guy is only 18 yrs old,” to which Kakai simply replied, “So?”
Another said, “Just because it’s legal and not against the law does not mean it’s morally acceptable.”
Prior to this, Apple had already denied allegations that she groomed Chad, saying anyone who believed wrongdoing had occurred was free to report the matter to the authorities.
