Gatchalian vows to uphold Senate's integrity as impeachment trial begins

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday, July 6 vowed to uphold the integrity of the Senate, as the Upper Chamber gears up for the first day of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
During the flag-raising ceremony at the Senate, Gatchalian assured the chamber's officials and employees that his leadership will focus on strengthening--not undermining--the institution.
"I thank all of you because despite what our institution is going through, you have continued to provide quality service to our fellow Filipinos," Gatchalian said.
"I ask you to trust me that we will not do anything that will damage the institution we all cherish," he said.
The Senate chief said his leadership will be guided by integrity, professionalism, dedication and leadership by example.
"I hope that in the years we will work together, we will keep these four principles in our hearts and minds so that we can demonstrate that the Senate of the Philippines is ready to provide the. most effective service to our beloved country," he said.
At the same time, he also thanked the Senate employees for ensuring the orderly conduct of the opening of the impeachment proceedings, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
