Justin Brownlee was ruled out for Gilas Pilipinas’ last game against Australia in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers third window, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on the eve of the contest.
In an announcement on Sunday, July 5, the federation said Brownlee was forced to sit out the game against the Boomers due to a series of injuries that bother the 38-year-old naturalized player.
Brownlee is nursing a hamstring strain, peroneal tendinopathy on his right leg, and left knee swelling and cartilage defects.
The injuries seemed to have affected Brownlee in the last contest where he was limited to just five points on a 2-of-3 clip from the field in Gilas 102-106 defeat against the Tall Blacks.
Brownlee’s absence is surely a huge blow for Gilas which will be facing up against an undefeated Boomers. Australia is the only undefeated team in the Group A standings with a 5-0 record and it is coming off a qualifiers record of 24 triples in the 124-52 rout of Guam.
