For displaying good behavior, 27 Caloocan City Jail PDLs to be released in July

For their exemplary behavior while in detention, the release of 27 Caloocan City jail persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) is expected this month for complying with the strict requirements under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
In a statement, the BJMP said that their release was a result of the PDLs’ good behavior, discipline, and adherence to prescribed rules while inside the facility, a proof that positive change has corresponding rewards and opens up new opportunities in life.
The step was made possible through the persistent efforts of BJMP Caloocan City Jail personnel, headed by jail warden Supt. Ellen Barrios, partner Paralegal Unit and PDL Records Unit, in processing the required documents for the GCTA.
Previously, 20 Caloocan City Jail PDLs were the beneficiaries of the GCTA program in May after going through thorough screenings.
Barrios said that the PDLs’ scrutiny focused on their demonstration of good behavior, adherence to penitentiary rules and active participation in programs aimed at their rehabilitation and transformation.
“This is part of BJMP’s continuing effort to reduce congestion in slums while giving PDLs an opportunity to refresh and reboot in society,’’’’ Barrios continued.
Barrios pointed out that the initiative reflects the joint aspiration of the bureau and the local government of Caloocan City to provide the newcomers a chance to start afresh as responsible citizens.
Under the leadership of Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan, the Caloocan City government made significant contributions through the Balik-Laya Program of the facility, which aims to ensure the smooth reintegration of qualified PDLs into their families and communities.
