CEBU CITY – Live pigs, pork, and pork products from Negros Island will not be allowed to enter Bohol in the next 60 days.
The prohibition was contained in an Executive Order (EO) that Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado issued on Friday, July 3. “This is part of our effort to prevent the spread of ASF in the province,” Aumentado said.
Aumentado said the ban was imposed after confirmed cases of ASF were recorded in Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental.
The EO called for a strengthened coast surveillance and border security.
“Particular attention shall be given to seaports, municipal fish ports, public wharves, private ports, beaches, mangrove areas, river mouths, and other known or suspected unauthorized coastal landing sites,” the EO said.
Aumentado urged the provincial ASF Inter-Agency Task Force, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Philippine Ports Authority, Maritiime Group, and municipal government units to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement to prevent the unauthorized entry of live pigs and other regulated commodities.
“Let us continue to be vigilant and follow the policies against ASF for the benefit of the people in Bohol,” Aumentado said.
Aumentado issued the directive days after Cebu and Negros Oriental implemented similar measures.
Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro issued an EO calling for preventive and control measures against ASF. Baricuatro ordered strict inspections at seaports and entry points from the Negros Island region.
She also ordered random inspections to prevent smuggling and authorized temporary restriction on vehicles and livestock carriers from ASF-affected provinces.
In Negros Oriental, Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria issued an EO totally banning the entry of live hogs, pork, pork products, by-products, frozen boar semen, and hog transport vehicles from the neighboring province of Negros Occidental.
