Seasoned and rising woodpushers from across Mindanao will take center stage as the highly anticipated 2026 T’NALAK Chess Festival gets underway at Citi Mall in Koronadal City Saturday, July 4.
Hundreds of aspiring and veteran chess players from Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato, Davao, and General Santos are expected to compete in the one-day tournament organized by the Koronadal Chess Club.
The event is being staged in partnership with Provincial Sports Coordinator Paul Rey Millan, Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., Provincial Assessor Ritchie Ballesta, the T'nalak Festival Ways and Means Committee, philanthropist Orlando Batallones, and the local chess community.
Dubbed the Chess Capital of SOCCSKSARGEN, Koronadal City will host both junior and senior competitors, all eager to vie for the coveted trophies and cash prizes.
In the Team Dalawahan division (2000 average rating with an 1800 rating floor), the champion will receive P15,000, while the runner-up and third-place finishers will pocket P8,000 and P5,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, the top three finishers in the Class B division (1950 and below average rating) will earn P5,000, P3,000, and P2,000, respectively.
The Juniors division (ages 13-17) offers cash prizes of P2,000, P1,000, and P800, while the Kiddies division (12 years old and under) awards P1,000, P800, and P700 to its top three finishers.
Special awards will also be presented to the Top Lady, Youngest Participant, Top Senior, and Top Junior Team.
