CEBU CITY – A 16-year-old boy was killed while his 14-year-old companion was injured in a lightning strike in Barangay Daanlungsod, Tuburan, Cebu, on Thursday afternoon, July 2.
Police said the two boys were with a group of friends having a picnic in a beach when lightning struck around 3 p.m.
Lightning hit two boys who were immediately brought to the Tuburan District Hospital.
One of the boys, a Grade 10 student, was declared dead on arrival. The other boy remained under observation, police said.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old construction worker was electrocuted to death in Barangay Cogon, Compostela, Cebu.
Police identified the victim as henell Andogan Daclan, a resident of Sitio Liberty, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.
Police said the victim and co-workers were eating lunch in a bunkhouse when he reached for the extension wire for their ceiling fan. Daclan touched a worn part of the wire and was electrocuted.
The victim was taken to the Danao City District Hospital where he was declared dead. Police said they recommended an autopsy on the victim but his family refused as they believe his death was an accident.
