The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating a viral confrontation involving a motorcycle rider, Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) rally participants, and a police officer along EDSA near the People Power Monument on June 30.
Police said the investigation will examine all available evidence and statements from those involved to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident while ensuring due process.
A video circulating on social media showed the motorcycle rider caught in traffic after buses carrying rally participants blocked part of the road, prompting him to proceed toward EDSA White Plains, where many INC members had also gathered.
The rider alleged in the video that some rally participants took his motorcycle’s key, while one participant was also heard making a threatening remark.
According to the QCPD, initial reports showed that the incident began as a verbal altercation that nearly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Responding officers immediately intervened to defuse the situation, police said.
QCPD said the responding officer acted in accordance with Philippine National Police (PNP) operational procedures by applying the principle of maximum tolerance to prevent violence at the scene.
Authorities have urged the motorcycle rider and other witnesses to come forward and provide information that may help establish the facts surrounding the incident.
Police said the QCPD remains committed to conducting a transparent, impartial, and thorough investigation.
