Potential super typhoon may enter PAR next week — PAGASA

A typhoon currently about 3,400 kilometers east of the country could reach super typhoon strength before entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) next week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, July 3.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the tropical cyclone, internationally named “Bavi,” is expected to continue moving westward.
“Possible po by Tuesday or Wednesday, papasok ito ng Philippine Area of Responsibility at posible po na magkaroon siya ng local name na ‘Inday’ (Possibly by Tuesday or Wednesday, July 7 or July 8, it will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility and could be given the local name ‘Inday’),” Badrina said.
He noted that the weather disturbance is not expected to directly affect any part of the country through the weekend.
Badrina said current forecast data show that the typhoon could enhance the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” next week, which will bring rains over Luzon and Visayas between Wednesday and Friday, July 8-10.
He added that the typhoon is seen to move toward Taiwan and could prompt the raising of tropical cyclone wind signals over Extreme Northern Luzon.
“So mainam po tumutok po kayo sa magiging update ng PAGASA lalo't meron nga po tayong papasok na bagyo at posible po itong maging super typhoon po once na pumasok or bago pumasok ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (So it is important to monitor PAGASA's updates because we have a typhoon that may enter and could become a super typhoon before or as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility),” he said.
“Marami pa naman po pwede mangyari pero sa ngayon, ito po ang pinapakita ng ating mga datos (A lot can still happen, but for now, this is what our data are showing),” he added.
Badrina advised the public to monitor PAGASA's latest weather updates on the typhoon.
