DFA warns against fake IDs in passport, consular service applications

Applicants using forged, altered, or fraudulently obtained identification documents may face application denial and possible criminal charges

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday, July 3, reminded the public to submit only valid, authentic, and officially issued identification documents when applying for passports and other consular services.
In an advisory, the DFA said applicants must ensure that the information reflected in their identification documents is accurate, truthful, and consistent with official records to avoid delays in the processing of their applications.
“The DFA reminds the public to use only valid, authentic, and officially issued identification documents when applying for various consular services,” the department said.
“Applicants should ensure that all their documents, including identification documents, contain accurate and truthful information and are consistent with official records in order to facilitate the proper processing of their applications,” it added.
The DFA warned that the use, submission, or presentation of “fake, altered, forged, or fraudulently obtained identification documents” may constitute violations of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act No. 11983, or the New Philippine Passport Act.
Under the New Philippine Passport Act, the government strengthened safeguards against passport-related fraud, including the submission of falsified documents and the provision of false information in passport applications.
Such violations may result in the denial of an application and the filing of appropriate administrative, civil, and/or criminal charges, the department said.
Applicants were also urged to verify the validity of their IDs before submitting them to the DFA or its consular offices.
Those who lose their identification documents, become victims of theft, or suspect the unauthorized use of their personal credentials should immediately report the incident to the appropriate authorities, the DFA said.
“The cooperation of all applicants is essential in ensuring the integrity of public documents,” it added.
The public may check documentary requirements and procedures for passport applications and other consular services through the DFA Consular Affairs website.
