Police nabbed a suspected illegal firearms trader in Taguig City on Wednesday, July 1, seizing a revolver and live ammunition in a buy-bust operation.
The Southern Police District’s (SPD) District Special Operations Unit carried out the operation in Barangay Cembo as part of its campaign against loose firearms.
Authorities identified the suspect as alias Kaloy, 30, a resident of the barangay. He was apprehended for violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
The operation was based on verified information from a confidential informant regarding the suspect’s alleged illegal possession and sale of unregistered firearms.
Confiscated from the suspect were a .38-caliber revolver bearing the Smith & Wesson marking but without a serial number, three live rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, a cell phone, and marked money consisting of a genuine P1,000 bill placed on top of boodle money.
The firearm will undergo verification with the Firearms and Explosives Office to determine whether it is legally registered.
Police will also request firearms identification and ballistic examination from the SPD Forensic Unit to establish whether the weapon had been used in previous crimes.
The suspect was brought to Pasay City General Hospital for physical and medical examination.
Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco, SPD director, commended the team for the successful operation.
