BACOLOD CITY – A suspected “salvage” or summary execution victim was discovered in a sugarcane field in Purok Langka, Barangay Pacol, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 2.
Police Lt. Col. James Latayon, Bago police chief, said the victim was 30- to 40-years-old, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, has tattoos on his right arm and hand, and about 5’5” tall.
The body of the victim with a visible head injury was wrapped in a packaging tape and his hands and feet were hogtied.
Latayon said the victim was found by sugarcane workers or “sacadas” and may have been killed and somewhere and dumped in the area. He said that the body may have been there for about two days.
Bago lawmen are coordinating with neighboring police stations for missing individuals.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man was hacked dead by his wife’s alleged lover inside their house in Barangay Po-ok, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, June 30.
Police Major Eric Doronilla, Hinoba-an police chief, identified the victim as Ed.
Investigation said Ed, who was intoxicated, and his 52-year-old wife Jima figured in a heated argument when the victim confronted her about their marital issues.
The 56-year-old suspect Ge, who was listening on loudspeaker on Jima’s cellphone, intervened in their altercation. Jima left the house and the suspect, the husband of the victim’s sister, entered the house and hacked the victim in the neck.
The victim’s minor daughter saw the incident but was unable to react due to shock and fear, Doronilla said.
Police conducted a follow-up investigation and arrested the suspect at work in Barangay Cayhagan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental. A bolo, believed to be used in the crime, was recovered.
Police invited Jima for investigation after the suspect called her at the police station. They encouraged Jima to give a statement on the incident.
Despite Jima’s unclear role in the incident, she was charged with murder, along with the suspect on Wednesday, July 1.
He said that the couple would usually argue as the victim was aware of his wife’s affair with the suspect.
