The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) was placed under Red Alert Status on Thursday, July 2, as the city government heightened its emergency preparedness during the ongoing protest of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members at Liwasang Bonifacio.
Under the Red Alert Status, rescue personnel, medical response teams, emergency equipment, and other disaster response resources have been placed on standby to ensure immediate assistance in the event of any incident or emergency.
The heightened alert forms part of the Manila City Government’s contingency measures to maintain public safety and ensure the readiness of emergency responders throughout the duration of the gathering.
The MCDRRMD is also coordinating with other city departments and concerned agencies to facilitate a swift response to any medical, rescue, or emergency that may arise.
Meanwhile, Manila Police District (MPD) Director PIO Brig. Philipp Ines Jr. told Manila Bulletin that police personnel remain under a maximum tolerance policy as they secure the ongoing protest.
He added that the current number of deployed officers is sufficient to maintain peace and order and respond to any situation that may arise during the gathering.
City authorities said emergency responders and law enforcement personnel will remain on standby to help ensure the safety of rally participants, motorists, commuters, and the general public while the protest continues.
