A housemaid admitted stealing nearly P4 million worth of jewelry from her 73-year-old employer after being confronted over the missing valuables in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City, on Wednesday, July 1.
Police said the businesswoman discovered that her jewelry box had been opened while arranging her personal belongings at around 5:30 p.m. on the same day.
She later confirmed that jewelry worth an estimated P4 million was missing, confronted the suspect, identified only as alias "Mary Ann, who admitted taking the valuables.
Subdivision security personnel arrested the suspect on Wednesday, and turned her over to the Eastwood Police Station (PS 12).
Investigators said the suspect had been working as the victim's household helper for nearly three months.
A complaint for qualified theft is being prepared for inquest before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
Quezon City Police District Director Randy Glenn Silvio reminded the public to verify the identity and references of household helpers before hiring them.
